It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hi, all my reading buddies! This week I've managed to read and finish three books!
I found this one on Kobo, and it sounded so interesting. I'd heard of it, but never read it before. It was only three chapters long, and it was pretty weird and quirky, but I enjoyed it! Such an odd read, about a man who wakes up one morning to find he has become an insect. Truly bizarre. Gotta have a bit of sci-fi in your life now and then!

I also finished The Great Gatsby and have mixed thoughts about it.

The writing is beautiful, but I couldn't really take to the characters. I think I will enjoy it more when I see the movie. The Robert Redford one from the 70s might be a bit old-fashioned now, but I'm really looking forward to the Baz Luhrmann version, which I am sure will be a visual feast.

Another book I finished was Everneath.

It started off a bit teenagery, but once I had more of an idea of what was going on it became pretty interesting and a page turner. It helped that there was a countdown at the beginning of each chapter as to how long the girl had on earth before she was dragged backed down to the Everneath (a hell-like existence, it seems). In the end it was the love story that I appreciated the most.

And this week I am reading (drum-roll please) The Hunger Games.  I think I am about the last bookish person in the world to read this series and am looking forward to it!

I'm linking up with Book Journey to find out what the latest good reads are:

  1. I do think you probably are the last person to read The Hunger Games, but hey, you're reading it now and I hope you enjoy it as much as most other people.

I read the Kafka book too, it was very odd, but I liked it for being different.

    1. Metamorphosis reminded me of the old movie, The Fly; disconcerting, but so interesting. :)

  2. Woohoo you are in for a ride with The Hunger Games, last person on earth or not lol. Glad you enjoyed Everneath and hmmm don't know what to say about Metamorphosis ... never heard of it, don't think I'll be reading it but glad you enjoyed it :)

    1. Metamorphosis is a short story really, and is a freebie for e-readers. I've found short stories often have a huge impact because the content is so odd and we get just a quick glimpse into such an odd world. I'm quite a fan of the short story genre. :)

  5. Don't worry you are not the last - I haven't read them and probably won't because of my first person pet peeve.

The Metamorphosis on the other hand is a great story.

    Enjoy your books.

    1. First person is my favourite type of narrative! I feel like I am living the story through the narrator. So I should enjoy them! :)

  6. I really like that cover for Gatsby. I'm not sure about the movie. I saw the preview for it and the actors they cast for all the lead roles seem not quite right to me. Loved the Hunger Games. Hope you enjoy your week!

    1. I thought the same thing for Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen, but in the end he was perfect! Baz Luhrmann usually makes good choices, so hopefully it will work out! :)

  8. I am reading The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory. I liked The Other Boleyn Girl (a slow start), so I thought I would give another one of her's a shot.

    1. I LOVED The Other Boleyn Girl, and have Lady of the Rivers on my bedside TBR pile. After trying to read Mists of Avalon, and not being into the pagan side of it, I'm not sure whether I'll get into Lady of Rivers. I'll look out for your opinion of it. :)

  9. I tried to read Everneath and couldn't get through it. :( Agree - very teenagery! Great word to describe it.

    What are YOU reading??
