Songs from the Movies

It's Tuesday's Tune time, and this week we're talking Songs from the Movies.
The song I hear on tele all the time at the moment is on the ad for the movie Safe Haven
starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel.

It's a song by Christina Perri called Arms. An unusual clip but pretty, pretty melody.

Pop over to A Snap, A Set and A Song for more beautiful tunes!

A Date with Mr Grey

This week's  A Snap A Set and A Song theme is Grey.

A month or so ago I travelled into the city for a teaching course which was held at the State Library. Coincidentally, I had worked there for five years about twenty years ago, and had a wonderful time amongst the books. Then the teaching bug got me and I was away...
The Alexander Library Building is like a big slab of polished stone.
You can go there to rustle through the archives of our state's history.

While looking for a grey outfit for this week's polyvore set, I found this pretty dress which looks a bit purplish but is called grey. So I ran with it:

A Date with Mr Grey

Sportmax short sleeve dress

Ted baker

Giorgio Armani sheer lipstick

Face powder

Estée lauder

Bare escentual

For my Grey song, here is a song by Skylar Grey. Most people probably know it better as a song by Eminem and Rhianna, but this version is acoustic, haunting and sublime.

Tune into A Snap, A Set and A Song for more fun with photos, fashion and music!

Love to you!

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hello, bookish friends!

(Clark Gable and Marion Davies)

For Valentine's Day, my lovely hubby gave me this book:

and it's a beauty! It only took about an hour to read, but it is a collection of short stories about different famous lovers from literature and real life, including Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Heathcliff and Cathy, and Lancelot and Elaine. Obviously some of the stories were very well known, but others I was reading for the first time. I was completely entranced by the sad story behind the building of the Taj Mahal, and by the heartwrenching story of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, the creation myth of the Maori people. There are 18 stories in all, and at the end of each chapter are the facts and figures of the story's origin.
Such an enjoyable, romantic, and often bittersweet read.

Popping over to Book Journey now to find out what people are reading this week.

TV Love - Heston's Feasts

On Saturday, I found a fantastic show on Foxtel called Heston's Feasts.
Heston Blumenthal is a chef with a flair for the unusual, and a love of science, history and literature.
He is interesting, intelligent and very talented!

In each episode, Heston chooses a fascinating moment from history, such as the Edwardian era,
or from literature, such as Alice in Wonderland,
and travels the world researching authentic dishes pertaining to that theme,
in order to create an amazing feast for 6 celebrities.

The episode I caught was the Titantic Feast which featured foods from the Edwardian era,
including curry ice cream;

camel burgers, as a nod to Laurence of Arabia;
an Antarctic Roll in reference to Scott's expedition to Antarctica;
and a flambe iceberg, which of course pays homage to the sinking of the Titanic.

Not only does Heston create fabulously clever dishes, he also hosts the feasts in magnificent venues, with elaborate decor and food displays to suit the theme.

I am so impressed by the cleverness of this show,
that I am adding it to my planner so I can record every episode!
Take a look at it yourself if you get the chance.

Love to you!

Wardrobe Overhaul Part 3 - Shoe Storage

Last time I overhauled my wardrobe I bought an Expedit bookcase from Ikea and placed my shoes like this.

Which was great! But I soon realised that there was a lot of wasted space in those cubes,
so I started looking for something more compact.

Another trip to Ikea recently, and I found the perfect solution:

The Trofast storage shelf! I'm in love! And it holds all 18 pairs of my shoes.
(Not my boots, they were tall enough to stay in the Expedit shelf.)
I also love that there is space for two pairs to sit side by side facing forwards -
I couldn't do that with the Expedit shelf.

This storage shelf won't work for people who have very high heels,
but most of my shoes are low enough to fit within these shelves.
I made a couple of adjustments for my higher heels, by removing the shelf at the top,
and sitting the bottom shelf on top of the runner, instead of in the middle of it.
(You can tell if you look closely.)
By the way, sorry if you fall over looking at this pic - it's a small space to get a good view!

So I'm a happy bunny now!
Next I am going to get some drawer inserts for the Expedit shelves
to store underwear and pyjamas.
These don't come in until mid-Feb, so watch out Ikea - I will be back!
And I'll keep you posted on how they look!

Love to you!

Tuesday's Tune

This song has driven me crazy today because I could hum it, but not think what it was called. I went through list after list of Jazz tunes on youtube and couldn't find it. After about six hours of listening to 100 favourite jazz tunes and the like,  I finally gave up and called my Mum. All I said to her was it's an instrumental and it's jazz and she started humming it straight away and knew the name and artist!
Sorry Google and youtube but my Mum's better than you!

So here is this wonderful song that I'm sharing for Tuesday's Tune.
Go Paul Desmond on the sax!
Hope it conjures up some nostalgia for you as it does me.:)

Go check out some more music at the Tuesday Tune's meme.
