It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

I haven't really had my head on reading this week. I keep drifting off and thinking of reports.
Besides I was sick for a few days.

I did manage to read this though:

I can't say I love it, because although I find dystopian novels clever and interesting, I also find them quite unsettling.  I mean, how awful to live knowing the Hunger Games come up every year, and your name may be called to fight to the death! As I said, I have been a bit distracted this week, but I thought I'd be able to keep my mind on this one, given the hype. But I often had to rein my own thoughts in to keep reading. It also could have been the teenagery side of the book that lost my attention; Katniss having to kiss Peeta when she didn't have feelings for him, is all a bit adolescent for me. I'm interested to find out what happens in part two and three of the series, now that I've read about the games. It will be intriguing to find out some more about this futuristic vision of our world.

I downloaded HEAPS of book samples to my iphone this week (as if I don't have enough REAL books on my TBR pile!!) But I love that I can read a hundred or so pages of a book before I decide to buy it.  Especially with all the reviews and recommendations I read online!

I also can't stop raving about how convenient it is to read on an iphone!

So I'm off to write more reports, and to read more of the Hunger Games series, and lots of samples of books, waiting for my next great find!

Joining up with Book Journey to see what everyone else is reading!

  1. I read on my iPod all the time. I'm not a big reader of book samples/excerpts - I hate not being able to keep reading once I start reading!

Thanks for stopping by Book'd Out earlier! Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out

  2. Sorry The Hunger Games hasn't managed to hold your attention, hope that changes as you continue with the series.
Have a great week and happy reading :)

PS. Definitely lots of sexual tension in Fifty Shades and it is erotica (my first read in that genre) but the psychological aspect to the story was fascinating ... a damaged little boy/fragile man.

  3. I haven't read The Hunger Games...and I'm not sure I will. I do enjoy some dystopian, although, as you say...it is definitely unsettling!

Enjoy your week...and here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST

  4. Hunger games! Hunger Games! Hunger Games! :) The movie is wonderful - I didn't care for the book much. That just never ever happens!

    Happy reading this week :)

  5. I hope you're feeling better. I was sick last Monday... awful way to spend a bank holiday!

My favourite read last week was Emily the Strange: Dark Times by Rob Reger. Please come see what else I'm reading.

  6. I just read the Hunger Games series in February and I did enjoy it, but I also find dystopian to be quite unsettling, like you said. I have to take my time between those novels, too many at once really gets me down. I think it's because I don't entirely believe in the goodness of humanity, so I can really see those futures coming to pass if we aren't careful.

    Hope you're feeling better!

  7. I read THG earlier this year and enjoyed them but I can see how some people wouldn't-to each their own! I also love being able to read with the kindle app-I have an iPod Touch-it is extremely convenient. I still prefer actual books but I do appreciate the ease of the e-book!
