It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hello to all my bookish readers!

This week I finished reading Mockingjay, which, to be honest, I found a bit boring, until the last section when the action intensified. And I enjoyed the ending too. Surprising in a way, but also made sense.

I managed to pick up a copy of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas for $1 from the second hand book shop, and it was so well read, I loved the feel of the pages!  I had already seen the film of this book which was quite shocking, and I was interested to see how I felt reading the book. I do love to read a story written through the eyes of a child, and the naivety of the children was even stronger in the book. The ending of this story is just awful, but the twist is cleverly done, and the message powerful.
This is a story that stays with you. Like, forever.

We're off for a trip to Melbourne tomorrow, so I will go back to reading books on my iphone.
I am currently reading

and

so I have more than enough to entertain me!

I am linking up with Book Journey, too, to see what everyone else is reading:

Have a lovely week, full of real or bookish adventures!

xx

    1. Shadow of the Serpent has gone off on a bit of a tangent, so now I'm not as sure about it being a good read. I'll give it a little longer ... :)

  4. I've tried Little Women a couple of times and never got very far in it.

My favorite read last week was Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. Please come see what else I'm reading.

    1. Amy and Roger's Epic Detour sounds like fun!

Little Women is one of those ones where it's not a page turner, but each story has a life lesson. Kind of like reading the Bible - you read it bit by bit, rather than in one fell swoop. :)

  6. I read The Hunger Games trilogy and I thought part of the ending was okay. I loved reading Little Women when I was a teen. That seems like such a long time ago...*sigh*.

    1. I think the Hunger Games is brilliant reading for teens - I would have been blown away by the story when I was a teenager. I think it would make for very interesting discussions about values and choices. I can't imagine many teens these days enjoying Little Women, although maybe the close family would be a comfort for many. :)

  7. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas made me cry (book was better than the movie IMO). Also LOVE Little Women. I just read it last year and can't believe I waited so long because it was fantastic.

    1. I thought both the book and movie of Boy in the Striped Pyjamas were powerful. I bawled at the end of the movie! I love the wholesomeness of Little Women, and how the characters are continually trying to improve themselves. :)

  9. Aww Little Women is a favourite and I was disappointed with Mockinjay. The ending of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas had me gasping in disbelief ... just awful but the book was certainly unforgettable.

    1. If you can get a copy give it a go, because even though it is sad, it is a quick read, 200 pages, and the writing is just brilliant. :)

    1. Little Women is one of those books that is passed down through families, or bought for children. Worth reading as an adult, too. :)
