The Wicked Witch - A Snap, A Set and A Song

I have such fun during the week, playing with polyvore and creating a blog post to match a theme for the Snap, Set and Song, meme. This week's theme is Green. I was stumped at first, and then I thought of emeralds, which made me think of The Emerald City, and the Wicked Witch of the West, who is green!

My Snap is of the cover of Gregory Maguire's book Wicked, which a friend gave me to read about 5 years ago. I thought it was a magnificent idea of how life may have really been for the Wicked Witch of the West, and I loved the story. If you like The Wizard of Oz, you should read this book, if you haven't already! This book is the version that includes the follow up to Wicked, called Son of a Witch, which I haven't yet read. I must find it sometime!

When the musical, Wicked, came along I was unsure about seeing it, in case it spoiled the original story of the Wizard of Oz, so we waited until the very last minute and then got tickets. I was soooo glad we saw it - what an incredible show! The script was funny, the acting and singing were awesome, and the stage sets and costumes were AMAZING! I played the soundtrack in my car for about six months straight afterwards!

My Set is inspired by the Wicked Witch of the West.

Chasing Sunsets

I chased the sunset for a long way up the coast the other day, stopping at different points and hoping to capture the sky in all its glory. I didn't manage to get a photo of the huge pink and grey stripes that streamed across the sky at one stage, but I was happy to get this shot:

The sea was so calm and there was not a breath of wind in the air.

Just a still feeling of peace. :)

1920s Hair Styles

I've been thinking of styling my hair in a 1920s/30s way, and I found these pics for inspiration:

Love the idea, but the reality...?
I'm just a scaredy cat when it comes to styling hair!

Which look do you like the most?

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hi, blogging friends!

I've had a positive week, reading some great books!

I finished 11/22/63 by Stephen King, which I can highly recommend as a fabulous read!  It only cost $11.99 on ibooks, and was completely worth it!

I have also just finished reading The Secret Garden. What a joy that was! It is amazing how a little bit of sunshine, friendship and gardening can change people. This story was so inspiring it actually brought me to tears, and I never cry in books! Very uplifting.

Now I'm going back to some books I picked up recently, but never really got started on, because I was swept away by other stories:

It'll be interesting to see which of these really grabs me this week!

Check out what everyone else is reading here:

Happy Sunday!

We haven't had internet access for a few days, so I haven't had a chance to post! (Let me tell you, I was getting the jitters!) I got it all sorted out this arvo and then was overcome with illness, so have been in bed since about 2pm! I think I ate something wrong.

Anyways, I thought I'd share with you the outfit I wore to church today.

and earlier today I was wearing this cardi:

Skirt from Kmart
Top from Cotton On
Cardigan thrifted
Shoes from Target
Pearls from Diva

My inspiration for this outfit was Wallis Simpson:

I love her elegant styling.

Now I just need to do something interesting with my hair to look a bit more 1920s/30s.
Do I dare?

Sherlock Holmes - Film Love

The two recent Sherlock Holmes movies have provided the ultimate role for Robert Downey Junior - that of a manic, dependent, intelligent being with the power to influence people.

Gosh I love this character portrayal of Sherlock Holmes! And the clever cinematic devices that create quirky and memorable effects in the film, namely the slow mo fight scenes, and the long shot zoom-ins.

Every single scene in this film was elaborately thought out, from sets to buildings, to costumes and props, taking you right into the world of the late 19th century. There is humour and drama, and an insight to the mind of a man who observes and analyses every detail around him, enabling him to discern the most discrete of happenings.

Of course I couldn't let a post go by without sharing some pics from the film, because for me it was a visual feast. I love historical pieces with a passion!

The interplay between Holmes and Watson is hysterical, because Holmes is both frustrating and a genius at the same time. Jude Law plays Watson brilliantly. I wasn't that fussed with Noomi Rupace's gypsy character, nor was I taken with Moriarty the villain, but Holmes and Watson I could watch all night.

Worth it for the train sequence alone. Great entertainment!

Have you seen the movie?

Chicago - A Snap, a Set and a Song

Today, I am joining in with the linky party over at A Snap, A Set and A Song. Each Thursday we share a photo, a set of items, and a song to represent a theme. This week's theme is Musical, and in keeping with my art deco obsession I have chosen the musical Chicago. Well, the movie, because I've never seen the stage show. I actually didn't even like this movie because the characters were all self-obsessed, and had low morals, but the musical numbers are catchy and the sets were gorgeous.

So here is a snap from the movie. I love the costumes and set in this pic. Swoonful!

Here is my Chicago set created at Polyvore:

Chicago

Oasis fringe dress
$130 - oasis-stores.com

Rupert Sanderson suede shoes
$785 - rupertsanderson.com

Dolce Gabbana mini handbag
$1,275 - net-a-porter.com

Precious stone ring
£6,495 - liberty.co.uk

Statement ring
$14 - modcloth.com

Christys vintage style hat
€69 - jades24.com

Yves saint laurent lipstick
$32 - yslbeautyus.com

Lanvin perfume
$75 - lanvin.com

Max Factor nail polish
£8.50 - nelly.com

And this is a song from the movie. One we all know well, and which has been on repeat in my head since I started thinking about this post! The lyrics and routines are sleazy, I know, but the tune is catchy, and Catherine Zeta Jones plays this part to perfection!
( I didn't realise the clip I posted this morning was semi-porn! Sorry if i offended anyone. Have now swapped to a video of All That Jazz with behind the scenes clips, but no sex scenes! Interesting to see how the rehearsals for the show evolved into the real thing. )

Pop over to Thea's blog to see some more interpretations of the Musical theme!
