Film Love - Boardwalk Empire

In my search for all things art deco, I had been wanting to see Boardwalk Empire but wasn't able to find it on Graboid Video. Luckily for me it was on Foxtel last night, so we watched the first two episodes!

Now while I am not that into gangster stories, the costumes and sets were what I was watching! While the characters went about their business, I was busy scanning the backgrounds for decorating ideas!

I am tempted to buy one of these candlestick phones to use around the house:

And I was eyeing off all the lamps and chairs:

dining chairs and teasets:

desks and clocks:

paintings, sidetables  and doorways:

headboards and curtains:

And I was making mental notes of the costumes, hairstyles and shoes too:

I am hooked!

Have you had a chance to see Boardwalk Empire?
It sweeps you up into another world!

Time for Holidays!

Last day of the school term today, and I am exhausted!

I've been trying to fit a lot into my life at the moment, and it has kept me mostly on my toes, but now I'm ready for some down time!

Screen Idols - Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet has been in the news this week promoting the new Titanic 3D. I love this scene from the original film and simply cried and cried at the end.

The colours, decor and costumes in this film are awesome.

Kate Winslet is my favourite actress, by the way.
I knew she was brilliant when I saw her in Heavenly Creatures, waaaaay back when...

She just had it. Intensity.

I love all her films. She makes brilliant choices: Revolutionary Road, Iris, The Reader, Finding Neverland, The Holiday...

And look at her!

She is just beautiful. Love her! xx

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Last week I read the brilliant One More Time by Damien Leith. What an engaging, heartwarming story with unusual, memorable characters. Just genius! And a very quick read. I'm a pretty slow reader and it took me about 3 hours all up. You must get a copy of this if you can.

An Irish traveller, Sean is trekking in Nepal with his guide Mani. Mani is an overworked, underpaid porter who carries Sean's backpack and sets the pace for the trek. On the way they meet a Japanese tourist who is arrested by Maoists asking for donations for their cause. The Japanese man refuses tro pay and is taken by force. Sean and Mani continue their climb, with Mani suffering stomach pains and Sean suffering the continual rituals of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Brilliant character portraits and shocking twists make for compelling reading!

Now I am immersed in The Mists of Avalon, which is completely intriguing, but, for me, is a long read. I will need another week to finish it!  I am loving the character portrayals, and the juxtaposition of pagan and Christian beliefs in the time of King Arthur.

I'll be reading some small books after this:

and

What books have you enjoyed lately? And what's next on your list?
Have a great reading week.

Changing Up, Art Deco Style

I've been changing up my blog over the weekend and am still messing around with it, so forgive me if it has looked chaotic here! After seeing Midnight in Paris I have been all obsessed with art deco, so I had to give the blog a little bit of a deco look. I stole the idea from this ghd ad featuring Katy Perry, which did actually make me rush out and get a ghd last year.
Advertising really does work!

I'm seriously thinking about buying this wallpaper for our bedroom, I love it so much! And a similar lamp, and dressing table. When I get obsessed about something I really get obsessed!
Have a great week! xx
