Bedrooms - Art Deco Style

I've been thinking very carefully about how to make additions to our master bedroom to give it more of an art deco look. Here are some pics I have been coming back to for inspiration:

Loving the wallpaper, mirrored furniture, flowers, and stool:
Dita Von Teese, InStyle magazine

Loving the headboard, and bedsides:

Loving the wallpaper, streamline lamp, mirror and view of the Chrysler building:
Katy Perry, ghd advertisement

Loving the lamps, breakfast table, dark wood and desk.

Loving the lamps, sunburst mirror and dark wood:

Loving the bedhead, sunburst mirror, taupe walls, drapes, glass bedsides, lamps, linen and chandelier:
awelldressedhome.blogspot.com

Loving the black and white art wall, dark wood, and lamps:

Loving the wallpaper, bedhead, and black and white framed photos:

Now I just have to shop!

Are you looking to change your bedroom style?

Film Love - Boardwalk Empire

In my search for all things art deco, I had been wanting to see Boardwalk Empire but wasn't able to find it on Graboid Video. Luckily for me it was on Foxtel last night, so we watched the first two episodes!

Now while I am not that into gangster stories, the costumes and sets were what I was watching! While the characters went about their business, I was busy scanning the backgrounds for decorating ideas!

I am tempted to buy one of these candlestick phones to use around the house:

And I was eyeing off all the lamps and chairs:

dining chairs and teasets:

desks and clocks:

paintings, sidetables  and doorways:

headboards and curtains:

And I was making mental notes of the costumes, hairstyles and shoes too:

I am hooked!

Have you had a chance to see Boardwalk Empire?
It sweeps you up into another world!

Loving 91 Magazine

One of my favourite online magazines is 91 Magazine by Patchwork Harmony. I have been reading and  loving Caroline's blog for ages, and now I get all excited when new issues of 91 Mag are released! You can read the magazine here for free by just clicking on the picture below:

There are some great features, my favourite including a look into the life of Tif Fussell from Dottie Angel. She makes me want
to go all artsy!

Take a few minutes to flick through and maybe find some sweet inspiration for home decorating. xx

Rue Magazine

I am full of admiration for people/bloggers who have created their own online magazines. It truly astounds me that so few people working on an idea can come up with something so polished.

Check out the newly released issue of Rue, created by one of my fave bloggers, Crystal from Plush Palate.
It is an interior decorating magazine, and also features some Valentine's Day gift ideas in this issue. I already have taken away some inspiring ideas from it! Just click on the magazine cover to read. You may even want to check out past issues too!

My Place and Yours - Kitchen Love

The theme for My Place and Yours this week is Kitchen Love.

I popped into Spotlight the other day for some creative bits and pieces, and spotted this cutie! We're always baking biscuits, and I STILL have a blue kitchen, so it's perfect for us right now!

Drop into Hello Owl for some more kitchen love!

My Place and Yours - Behind our front door

This is one of those voyeuristic games where you get to see inside everyone's homes - I love it!  This week at Hello Owl, we're finding out what you see when you open your front door. Here's what you see in our house:

Straight ahead:

To the left:

And over in the corner, on top of the piano, my new ornamental birdcage, a birthday present from my Mum. Swoon!

You can see some more home reveals over here. Play along too, if you wish!
Oh, and don't forget to head back here on Friday to enter my 40th birthday GIVEAWAY!

Red roses and a vintage lamp

I have just revived this little corner of our home, to give it a bit more personality.

(The photos are blurry because I took them in a hurry!) Firstly, I bought a new shade for this vintage lamp base that my Grandad made in the 60s. He made lots of things out of wood, and enjoyed whittling away pieces to make plaited designs and chains. I love it!

Also, at work the other day, a woman brought in tubs and tubs of red roses for free, because they were seconds, as some leaves had got burnt. I didn't even bother to take off those leaves, I think they have character the way they are.

There is a bowl in the centre (and, yes, I am going to buy a fancier one for here), that is holding all the stones that we have collected in our travels. So pretty!

The Parisian calendar is one I got late last year, so it is showing 2009 dates. That might be bad feng shui but too bad, the pictures take me away.

And, hey, I couldn't resist putting another Black Apple creation (one of the spring girls from last year) into the scene as well.

Loving the glow from the lamp and the dark woodiness of it all!

Some things I have wanted for a long time

Aaah, I finally have them! Two black Hemnes bedsides from Ikea. Simple, elegant. And I put them together myself! Oh the joy!

Here they are in action in their new home. Yay!

Judith's Magical House

While in Tassie, we went to visit our friend Judith. Her home sits at the top of a hill overlooking the Tamar river. It is a majestic house; everything is on a grand scale, and it is filled with wonderful antiques and furniture. The gardens, too, are spectacular.

These photos are just from one room, so imagine the rest of the house!

Beautiful house

Last week I got together with some friends from work for a relaxing afternoon of fun and frivolity at our friend Jodi's house. We all felt like we were on the set of Grand Designs, because the house was of huge proportions and had beautiful details. Take this ceiling for example - swoon!

And the way the walls were rendered.

The handles on the recycled windows (and a stunning view of rolling hills!)

The huge stone fireplace...the flooring...

the walls that go up forever... the pretty doors, light fittings, and switches.

These lights!! (They will have shades eventually.)

This little decking and rockery area that Jodi whipped up the other day! (Kids supplied by myself and others.)

An adventure-inspiring play area in the backyard for Jodi's three boys (note the recycled bricks on the exterior of the house.)

A sand hill for sandboarding and other extreme sports.

And then, (that's not all!), Jodi also has an adorable cottage nearby, that they lived in while building their house. It has covetable verandahs...
that go all the way around...

Again, stunning recycled materials..
the view of the hills...copius quantities of lavender...
a view of the main house...

and the cutest laundry up the pathway...

with incredible doors!

And did I mention that Jodi and her husband Garth built all this themselves???!! Pretty impressive, if you ask me!
After that grand tour, let me introduce you to the silly people who were there. From the left, Mandy, Jodi, Narelle, Emma and Meagan. Beautiful sunny day, more-ish, yummy food, good company and lots of laughs.

Aaah, the holidays. Gotta love 'em!
