My Place and Yours

I so love the blogging world, and the friends I have made online!
One precious lady, is Cherie from Waste Not Do Want,
who has a meme called My Place and Yours. This week, the theme is Keys.

I adore this I Heart Books keyring because it celebrates my favourite hobby. The bling represents my love of jewellery, and the handbag and shoe charms represent my love of fashion and shopping. I only have my two work keys, my house key and car key here, because that's all I need!

Link up with Cherie at My Place and Yours to let us know something about you through your keys!

My Place and Yours - Green

Over at hello owl, we are playing along with My Place and Yours, and the topic is Green.

I considered a few different green things and then I saw this beautiful box that my sister gave me for Christmas. I was so excited when I got it because I had nearly bought it for myself a week earlier when looking for gifts! I love it when people have psychic moments like that!

It is the very palest of greens, but nevertheless, green. I LOVE it!
It sits on top of my chest of drawers in our bedroom and holds...

watches!

What's green at your place?

My Place and Yours - W

Over at hello owl, Danielle asked us to find something in our homes starting with W. Being a rather bookish person, this pop-up book of the Wizard of Oz was the first thing to come into my head. It is beautifully illustrated and cleverly made, with intricate pop-ups, and also has recorded sounds on each page.
I adore it!

The cover:

The Tornado

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

The Tinman

The Emerald City

The Flying Monkeys

The Witch

The Wizard

The Return of Dorothy

By the way, is anyone going to the production of Wicked this year?

My Place and Yours

Over at hello owl, Danielle has asked us to decide what ONE THING we would take from our home in an emergency. It's kind of impossible to name just one, because the last time we prepared to evacuate I packed the car full of stuff! I think there's a lot of things you can grab in a small amount of time, and I would mostly grab what I would pack in a suitcase if I was going for a holiday; clothes, shoes, toiletries, handbag, etc.

But something I wouldn't usually take on holiday is my external hard drive with all the photos we've taken over the years. Much easier to carry than photo albums or a computer, and something that can not be replaced.

Here he is:

I call him Max. I would definitely take him with me in an emergency!
(And now that I think of it, I'm going to keep him in my handbag at all times!)

I'm also going to work on making a civil defence pack, like the one Megan organised over at mousehouse.

What would be the ONE THING you would take in an emergency?

My Place and Yours - What am I reading?

It's tricky to find time to blog these days, but I wanted to join in with this meme over at hello owl asking what we are reading. At the moment, I am absorbed by an absolutely BRILLIANT book called the Kite Runner.

Set in Afghanistan and America, it is the story of a man who lives with the guilt of how he treated his childhood friend. This is a must-read book, and is unputdownable!

Next on my list of reads are these three:

In particular:
A Fortunate Life
Anne of Green Gables
The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency

All pretty different books, that Mum picked up for me at the thrift shop where she works.

I have joined in a few book reading challenges this year, and you can see these on my sidebar. I often post book reviews too, on my other blog, Wise Owl Books.

My main challenge, for myself, is to read all the books on the Dymocks 2010 Booklovers Best Top 101 Booklist.

That's virtually impossible to read here, but you can zoom in. You can print out your own copy and join in too! You might find you've read a few of the books already. Comment below, if you'd like to join in the challenge. There is no time limit, but I generally read one book a week. I can't survive without books!  (I also fill in the Top 100 lists for Angus and Robertson and Borders!)

Pop over to hello owl to share what you are reading. xx

My Place and Yours - Green

For the last few weeks I've been too busy crafting to play this game at Hello Owl, so I thought I better get back into it! This week's theme is green, and I've chosen this little fellow to represent the green in my home.
One of my students from last year gave it to me as a Christmas gift, and I think it is just beautiful! (Also you get a glimpse of my new table runner and lantern. Loving!)

Head over to Hello Owl to see some more green ideas, and maybe play along! xx

My Place and Yours - Kitchen Love

The theme for My Place and Yours this week is Kitchen Love.

I popped into Spotlight the other day for some creative bits and pieces, and spotted this cutie! We're always baking biscuits, and I STILL have a blue kitchen, so it's perfect for us right now!

Drop into Hello Owl for some more kitchen love!

My Place and Yours - Treasure

It has been ages since I've posted, but I am BACK! First I am going to play along with the My Place and Yours meme at Hello Owl. The theme this week is Treasure, chosen by Stripey Monkey.

I know we are supposed to show a treasure from our home, but you have seen most of my home's treasures already! So, here is a treasure that arrived this week from Jonathon's folks in Tassie. They took a trip to Hobart, stopped at one of our favourite places, The Cadbury Chocolate Factory, and sent us this 5kg box of chocolates!!!! Oh my gawsh! (Alas, poor diet, I knew you well....)

Mm..mm......

Go check out some more treasures at Hello Owl!

My Place and Yours - Things that make you smile

Over at Hello Owl, this week's meme theme is "Things in your home that make you smile," hosted by Hayley over at Our Unique Journey. Now I know it's not very original to say 'my family' make me smile, but they always have me in hysterics when I'm trying to take a normal photo of them. Everything looks good, I press the button, and they just pull faces, over and over and OVER! Hysterical!!

Oh, my funny, crazy boys! Did they make you smile?

My Place and Yours - Yellow

After walking around and around the house trying to find some yellow, I dragged these things out of hiding:

Chicken Dance Elmo!!

And for your entertainment, you can even see him do his little song and dance (which is actually pretty painful after listening to it for about ten years!! You may find it cute on a first listen though, especially if you have littlies that might watch too.)

I also found some craft ribbon:

One of Jack's Lego creations:

And one of my notebooks, from one of my favourite blogging artists, The Black Apple

You will find more bursts of yellow over at Hello Owl's blog!

My Space and Yours - Make me proud

Over at Hello Owl, the My Place and Yours meme this week is to show something in our home that makes us proud. I have chosen this artwork created with pastels that my son made last year in year 6.

Seeing this reassures me that the art teachers at our school are teaching the children about the great artists of history, including the wonderful Picasso. Jack captured the spirit of Picasso so well that I couldn't help but be proud, and his artwork has pride of place in the study, where I can see it every day when I blog!

My Place and Yours

This week's My Place and Yours topic from Hello Owl is to show your favourite place in your home. I had to really think about this: was it to be the spot I most like to look at, be creative in, or relax in? I chose the latter, because, really, relaxing is the best thing ever! So here is my favourite relaxing spot in our house:

It is a joke in our house that this couch in front of the tv is know as The Danger Zone, because almost anyone who sits in that corner nods off to sleep (namely me, or my husband, or my Dad!) And when we're not having a nap we're watching our favourite shows and movies on Foxtel, or just having a fun old time!
LOVE this spot!

My Place and Yours - Behind our front door

This is one of those voyeuristic games where you get to see inside everyone's homes - I love it!  This week at Hello Owl, we're finding out what you see when you open your front door. Here's what you see in our house:

Straight ahead:

To the left:

And over in the corner, on top of the piano, my new ornamental birdcage, a birthday present from my Mum. Swoon!

You can see some more home reveals over here. Play along too, if you wish!
Oh, and don't forget to head back here on Friday to enter my 40th birthday GIVEAWAY!

My Place and Yours

Thought I'd play along with Hello Owl's weekly game, where people share pictures from their homes to meet a particular theme. This week's challenge is to share a favourite gadget. I've chosen this earring holder because I love the way it looks and without it, I would be in earring squalor!

You can get these from Target for $24.95, or Howard's Storage for $39.95. (Come on Howard's, who do you think we are going to choose?!)  I love organising tools!
